Another Renovation Project from the Chain of Medical Services for the Community in Żejtun
Statement by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Ministry for Health
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne inaugurated the completion of the renovation works at the health centre in Żejtun, described as another link in a chain of medical services towards the community. This is part of a three-year plan, whereby the Government plans to have a health centre for every 5,000 people. The Żejtun Health Centre will provide five medical services, two of which are new.
The medical services that will be provided are the General Practitioner and Nurse; Speech and Language Pathology, and Podiatry, both covering not only the residents of the city but also neighbouring towns and cities; and Physiotherapy, a service which is being introduced at community level for the first time at the health centre in Żejtun.
The cost of the renovation works amounted to approximately €60,000 from the €10 million NDSF funds which were channelled to the Primary HealthCare Department, as announced earlier this year.
An important aspect of the long-term vision of services provided by the health centres is that the services are sustainable and according to our needs. The installation of technological equipment in the health centres is also part of this holistic reform plan. These services lead to patients being treated in the community with the result of preventing greater long-term illnesses.
